The central processing unit (CPU) lies at the heart of any computer.Whilst, initially, CPUs were large, the invention of silicon wafer fabrication in the 1970s resulted in dramatic miniaturisation and the first microprocessors as we know them today.After that, they started to become known as micro processing units (MPUs).The terms are now used interchangeably.
